Use Our Library

Information about overdue materials, checkout times, overdue materials, fines and fees, renewals, and failure to return.

Reserves

If a reserved item is not picked up within a week, it will be returned to the stacks for circulation.

Materials not returned by the due date will incur a fine.  See Fines and Fees for details.

Overdue Items

Patrons will be notified after an item has been overdue for a period of time.  Books, Audio Books, CDs, Magazines - The assistant librarian contacts patrons at the end of each month about their overdue items, sending a postal card stating that materials are overdue.  The second month, the same procedure is followed.  The third month, a card with the items and fines detailed is enclosed in an envelope (this meets privacy requirements).  If, at the end of the next month the materials still have not been returned, a letter is sent stating that the situation will be turned over to the authorities for collection.

VHS/DVD - The assistant librarian attempts to notify patrons in a timely fashion (within one or two days) that the materials need to be returned to avoid building a large fine.

A record will be kept of contact attempts.

First notification will be made by phone.  If the item is not returned within one week of a phone messaage, written notice will be sent at the end of the month.  If the item is not returned within that month, a second written notice will be sent.

If the item is not returned within 60 days of the first notice of overdue materials, the library card will be suspended.

Failure to Return.

Failure to Return library materials for two (2) months or more after the date the person agreed to return the library materials or fails to return library equipment for one (1) month or more after the date the person agreed to return the library equipment is evidence of intent to deprive the owner, providing a reasonable attempt has been made to reclaim the materials or equipment, including the mailing by restricted certified mail of notice that such material or equipment is overdue, and criminal action will be taken.

 

Fees and Fines for In-house services

The following fees apply to in-house services:

       Fax - One dollar ($1.00) per page sent or received

       Copy - Ten cents ($.10) per page black and white copy for letter size; $.15 for legal size page

                 Fifty cents ($.50) per page color copy

       Print - Ten cents ($.10) per page for black and white print out

                Fifty cents ($.50) per page for color print out

       Microfiche - no cost

Fee for SILO transations

    Two dollar ($2.00) per book/item requested

General Overdue Fines

        Books, Audio Books, audio CDs, Magazines - Five cents ($.05) per open day overdue

        VHS/DVD - One dollar ($1.00) per open day overdue - Maximum fine for movies is $5.00 for returned items.

Overdue fines have a maximum of the replacement cost of the item (i.e., no item will incur a larger fine than the cost of the item to replace).

There is a surcharge of fifty cents ($.50) added to the fine each time an overdue notice has to be mailed.

Renewals

Items may be renewed by calling the Library circulation desk.  Renewal for books, audios cassettes, audio CDs is for one more week.  Renewal for movies is for one more day.  If a renewed item is returned but overdue, fine still applies for the overdue days previous to renewal.
